Those spiral easy outs are pretty notorious for braking off and making things worse.......best ones Ive used are the Ridgid extractors.......they dont tend to expand the broken bit as they are driven in.......incidentally ,a little secret few know.....if you break off a small steel bolt in ally ,like a motorbike bit,dont try to drill ,but build a little dam of silastic and fill it with alum solution ......the steel will dissolve ,the ally is unharmed.

I bet the "helper springs" are just mild steel strap and not spring steel.

Broken main leaf. I guess you do what you must. Good thing this one's only on a trailer (no brakes).

U-bolts are cheaper than spring leaves but if it gets you home or to the spring repair place, that's all you need.

Main spring leaf has been cut through so is not a get you home thing. Maybe looking for more spring travel, or even maximising the disaster when it lets go.

I can't think of any reason to do that. I reckon it's snapped right where the lower leaves end. Quite a weird setup, to me at least. I've only seen springs with increasingly shorter leaves, not all the same length plus a main. (unless there's something else I'm missing).
