An arc welder with gas?
I have my shoulder to the wheel,
my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
I'm gritting my teeth,

Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

As a man I used to work with used to say, and I will change the spelling of the second word so as not to use a rude word:-
"Cactus Fookedus"
I have my shoulder to the wheel,
my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
I'm gritting my teeth,

Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

In my experience that is as tight as all workers in mechanical workshops tighten them but they use a compressed-air powered rattle gun so you have no chance of getting them undone.
