You are a long way from home with that one Grandad I am guessing from the number plate that the Mack is in New Zealand, H being the prefix for heavy vehicles years ago. I think the E is probably a trading licence, indicating either distance, locality or maybe type of goods that could be carried. We had these here, years ago, to try to prevent competition with the inefficient Government owned railways. I suspect from the condition of the truck that it is in Bill Richardson's museum in Invercargill. The only time I got to Invercargill was a few years after Bill passed away and only one relative was showing people though the collection. As luck would have it when I was there, he was in Australia for two weeks, so I did not see it.

I have my shoulder to the wheel,
my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
I'm gritting my teeth,

Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

On the door of that great looking 50's A20 it says, Towing and Tore (as best I can make it out) but what is Tore?
OR
What should it be if I am misreading it?

I read it as "Towing and Tire", yankee for tyre.
