Hello Tatra and Swishy
The Scammell Contractor is one fantastic truck heavy and durable. the Australian military versions had a self changing gears transmission. Not good at all therefore we fitted a HD 750 Allison and made it the truck it is today.
Our twin steer version has the 1100 cubic inch AEC from original also fitted with a rto 915 Fuller transmission also from original. We then have a mint condition ex army cab for the old girl. We will get there and when we do it will be absolute original, given what we did to our first operational Scammell it might be better if I wait before becoming part of the Scammell movement.
None the less We love the old girl, during the week we relocated two 280 tonne Transformers at a power station. The Scammell simply tows them along the runways, normally they have a few wheels that don't turn after 20 years, that way the old girl can stand up normally with the front wheels a foot or so off the ground and put up a real show. Only two wheels were locked up this time so at about 900 RPM the Scammell sunk down in the back and 280 tonnes simply followed along.
When it comes to moving something that weighs a lot oan needs to move into or out of a very tight position, then every time the Scammell does the job.

Rex, thanks for the update on the 8X4 - will you be using it for work? And yes, i can see why you'd give FB a miss, lol, although the point is, it works and earns its keep which is what it was made for.

You may have already posted a spec sheet on the Scammell, but was wondering just what rear end and what ratio you were running?

Swishy mate
Yep the two new 700s are working well on the Ararat Wind Farm, but do need help from the ex Army 41530 MAN to make their way up 22% gradients on the job. No shortage of power , just can't get the Michelin's to grip, then 700 HP is a bit hard on any tyre.
