Swishy,
I remember going shopping with Mum one Saturday morning and we were walking past the toy store on our way out. Mum only had a fifty cent coin left in her purse, so I asked if I could have a matchbox car. I think they were 15 or 20 cents at the time. She was about to say yes, then remembered she needed to buy petrol on the way home... That would've been 1969-70 I spose.

What do you use to weld the 700 grade plate? We use ESAB dual shield 70. Flux Cored, gas sheilded wire. Goes on like butter and makes me look really good on verticals ups and overhead multiple layers. Strong too!

G'day Swishy, it depends. With regular solid wire on specialty repairs, like say a pivoting axle on a JLG boom lift. I try and keep the torch almost vertical. But welding around a collar is a sheet, so it varies between a slight push, pull and straight.Swishy wrote: Maxi

I personally feel too much of a push angle creates a ball of molten metal in front of the weld puddle.
When we use dual sheild 70, a slight drag is better as it behaves more like an electrode.

On some jobs I weld 1.6mm dual sheild wire for two 10-12 hour days straight ver tickle ups on the joins. 5 run overheads up top and 3-5 runs on the bottom. This filtered helmet keeps me cool delivering fresh air from out of the weld plume unlike non vented helmets.
