Did one a few years ago. Not a bad job and made a good truck out of it. Biggest headache was coolant filter fouling with gearshift but a bit of aussie ingenuity overcame that. C series cummins in accos are a good combination considering the woes of V8 cummins. Plenty of wrecked garbo trucks for bits and pieces to complete conversion. We used the original radiator which was used which was used with the 555 we pulled out. You would be miles in front going down this path over a 903.

From memory we utilised the same front crossmember and fabbed up new mounts. I will have ti go back theough the diary as i think i had some measurments and sketches. Is yours a roadranger or auto?

For economic reasons it may be easier just to find a running VT190. Alot have been rebuilt but retired due to rusty cabs or rusty chassis from agitators. I know what you mean about C series even a rebuilder brings 2 to 3 grand. The only other thought was an acco at West Wyalong on Ebay. It had a 466 navistar engine but could not be reregistered due to chassis rust. They werent a powerhouse but just as reliable as a C series and it would have all the bits for a conversion exhaust, engine mounts, etc etc.

You missed the best buys. Two years ago I was buying Cs and gearbox for $2,000 each in the truck in the US and bringing them home and our dollar was buying US$105

That is good buying. You wouldn't have too much trouble moving those on. I miss the dollar not being close to parity.

Yes I miss the high dollar, I pulled them out and shipped them my self but even the cost of that has gone up. I was only interested in the Allison autos.
