cam shaft
oil pump
injector pump
distributor
and no dounbt some oil seals that are designed to spin only one direction

and some other things Im not smart enough for

I have seen an old Toyota Corona start up while rolling backwards down a hill and had clutch dropped in first gear. It wasn't running very well, but he had to use the key to shut it down. Maybe the cam chain had slipped a few links in that one!!!

That's a darn good question, reversing a 4 stroker engine! I remember reading many years ago about large marine diesels which had two sets of cam gear, on a slide system. Would actually bring the engine to a dead top, slide one set out the way and slide the other in. Whole operation would take mere minutes apparently , must have only been used for emergency stopping, avert collision, cabin boy fell overboard etc. But now Ithink of it, maybe twas a two stroke with valves??
