Question time......the cops often have a speed trap outside my house, and usually get maybe four for speeding in 2 hours............This morning ,cops were there ,lots of them, and were pulling up cars and utes wholesale, and writing out tickets..........dozens pulled up...........What were they doing?........Old guy nextdoor thinks maybe mobile phone use while driving.........they rousted a couple of drivers in old heaps ,one looked like for drugs.......but the rest seemed to get tickets. definitely no vehicle inspection,no brownshirts to do it.......Signed...Puzzled of Wishart.

I'd rather have tools that I don't need, than not have the tools I do need.

The standard reply is emissions.
I reckon it was more to do with costs. The GM two stroke is an incredibly complicated engine, can’t be compared to the simplicity of a similar hp modern 4-stroke.
Now the Rootes two stroke was nice and simple, might explain why there’s a few copies around.
And that doesn’t include that twin crankshaft thing, Junkers spin off.

I would have thought the initial reason for the 2 stroke GM losing favour was poor fuel economy.

Hard to say as we'd be comparing old school injection to modern common rail.
But from experience with other makes, common rail gives way better economy.
30 years ago, who would have imagined the massive hp that today's manufacturers get out of relatively conservative cubic capacity.
All comes down to huge cooled air charge and injection.
