Many moons ago, I delivered to the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney, the "Hartnett prototype". I think this was AFTER he'd left General Motors? (but I havent googled it!). So Hartnett was certainly in the mix of car makers. What happened then, i don't know. Can't say the proptotype was a good looking car, but things were different then I guess?
Cheers
Rich

Yep, the Hartnett looked very similar to many English cars (Almost identical to the 1948 Vauxhall I bought when I was 16) similar to Daimler Conquest/Lanchester Leda, and others. Also similar to the Willys. I read that Australian steel producers refused to supply Hartnett because of pressure from General Motors and others. I said so on this Forum a while ago but Zuffen said I was wrong.

I have my shoulder to the wheel,
my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
I'm gritting my teeth,

Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

I always though Hartnett's car was actually a Lloyd.

.The main car in $wishys post is the Hartnett ......which as I understand was derived from a French design
with a horizontally opposed donk................
The half car pic on the right is a LLoyd Hartnett made by the LLoyd Motor Co of Germany, who were the fore runners of Borgward etc.
The LLoyd was imported later by Hartnett and became the LLoyd Hartnett.........nothing to do with the former.
The LLoyd had a vertical air cooled two cylinder OHV donk of 600 cc and a four speed box, for its size went pretty good with outstanding
road holding ability...............
I don't know who sold the Lloyd originally But Athan Pangas ,Myrtle St Chippendale.Sydney ended up with the dealership.
As an aside, they had a collection of cars of the day.....one time I was there I had a good look at Bill Clarkes HRG (88) ex Tony Gaze.........

A little amendment to the racing car bit ......the HRG was Eric Seniors car (18) ex Tony Gaze...............
Bill Clarkes car (88) ended up with Clive Adams and Jack Pryer ..........re named the PRAD.........
.......................I don't suppose that matters all that much.......that is how I recall the situation......................

And the reason I was there. ?????????? to get some parts for my couple of Lloyd Hartnets...........
.

I came across this Llyod on Google street view the other day in a lane behind a house in Paterson NSW while searching properties for sale. I tried to take a screen shot but it didn't work so I hope the link below does.
