So she is currently sitting beside the shed with no legs on her,ive stripped the brakes, having the shoes relined and the drums built up then machined back to standard size.

rear drums are from a Denning apparently and they are available....from England! $350 each plus freight.....

Fronts No longer available they tell me.

Wheel cylinders are ok, but outer seals a bit rugged, will replace them too.

Ill paint all the internal bits before refitting,

Ive spent about 10 hours total so far with the pressure cleaner and degreaser, its getting there.

Neither did i till last week, they spray (weld) a special mix of steel onto the drum. Basically same as cast. Apparently have done heaps with good success, ill keep you posted. Might be a new way of reserecting drums made from unobtainium

Certainly seen locomotive wheels being resized with a large wire fed welding machine using a loose flux that is recovered and recycled. Seems really cost effective compared to new cast wheels.
It is /was common to build up dozer track wheels and idlers using weld. No reason it should not be used to build up brake drums. Is it cost effective? dunno. Would it have engineering approval? probably not. Would I do it? hell yeah.

Slightly off topic, but as to people rebuilding/welding components, worked for a bloke who used to rebuild brake cam rollers by welding, then turning them down in a lathe to std. Why did he bother when the cost of new rollers was but a few bucks? He was a TINKERER, couldn't help himself.
Bloke giving a demo many years ago when the Sydney truck show used to be at Yennora wool yards, with one of those Henrob welding sets. Welded a couple of holes up in an old steel Coke can.
Bloke behind me asks if he can weld other stuff, replies
"You had one of these (Henrob), you could weld a razor blade to a banana skin!"

Didn't mean to sidetrack the issue, going to keep that brake drum rebuild/machining in mind for future reference.
Tanks, Dave
