Leyland 10x4

When Leyland started building tanks during WW11 they modified some eight-wheelers to transport them

At 11 tons this was not an overly large load (18 tons + was not uncommon) but most interesting was the fact that on extremely muddy roads the bullocky would slip a log between the spokes of a wheel when coming to a hill. The idea was to avoid the dray dragging the bullocks backwards down the hill; consequently the bullocks had to drag the fixed wheel up the hill AND for the down hill section the log was left engaged to prevent the dray over-running the bullock team!!
Poor buggers, they didn't get a break up or down.

So why do they not use tri-drive trucks to pull those big loads?
