Had a visit this morn from a guy taking round a petition about truck noise......they want the the road restricted.....And they have a point...In the last twelve months noisy jakes have increased from one tosser in an old Kenworth to hundreds of noise makers a day....and night....This will surely result in a crackdown on all old trucks, not just the idiots who think loud noises at 2 AM are good....There are only three makes causing all the noise, and all are 20 to 40 years old......But the pollies will use this as an excuse for what they want, and that will be noise test engineering reports on all old trucks every year.......And ,yes,I did sign .

gudday m8
the newer trucks with engine brakes do not make any more noise than the normal truck accelerate n
also Mr Jake Brake will cum down heavy on may body use n there trade name in a sign
the correct sign would B this with emphasis on Noisy (Wot iz noisy?)
Probly problem iz drivers take n out a baffle or tip n the muffler upside down

Starting to see the same trucks with noisy exhausts too........these guys will have a month off when the get hit with hooning laws......and a massive towing fee to the impound................There is a new Volvo parks outside some nights, the truck is so quiet that you dont hear him start ,blow the brakes ,or drive off......Unlike some KWs where the compressor governor cuts in like a gunshot about 10 minutes after they park.....and they reckon airstarts are too noisy.

To the best of my knowledge, unless the law has been changed, engine brakes are prohibited in built up areas.

Perhaps the petition should be to stop the government putting in retarded traffic lights and stop signs and so on that forces the use of these safety devices.

I'd hope that common sense would prevail before the brain dead sign police got petitioned.
Just returned from another Kimberley trip.
You leave Qld for NT and there's a 130 speed sign, that's it.
You leave NT for WA and there's a 110 speed sign.
Then come back to Qld and there's more signage than a driver could possibly read, talk about your nanny state.
60-80k speed if there's no centre line WTF ??? It would be faster to paint the bloody line rather than put up the signs.
Most nights in the camper trailer 100 yards from the highways, you'd hear the tyre noise from at least 5 k's away, no need to worry about a Jake.
By the time he was a mile away you'd think he was coming in, lots of tyres on a 4-trailer road train.
Ear plugs.....job done.

Re undue engine noise in built up areas, Unfortunately your always going to get the odd buffoon who cruels it for everyone, these galahs who punch the baffles out of six and eight inch mufflers and have the engine brakes screaming as they enter town in a 50 or 60 kph zone , all they are doing is drawing the crabs for the rest who are doing the righty. I live one street off a major highway crossing and swear that sometimes the windows rattle! And there's both a stop sign and a give way sign, on the intersection, consequence, RTA had a blitz up here about a month ago targeting above, also speeding in the main drag , knocked up issuing tickets for trivialities. Classic case of " guilt by association ". Most who seemed to be lumbered were either locals or at least from the surrounding area, who wander through everyday of the week and do the right thing. Dave
