Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

I had forgotten the character names until you mentioned Eccles. Must be the start of oldtimers (Altzheimers) disease.
Yes, it would have been either Eccles or Bluebottle. It would not have been Neddie Seagoon, Henry Crunn or Minnie Bannister.
The scene is something that only Spike Milligan could write. Much easier to do on radio than it would be on TV!
