You know how it is when one day you have to jump start the mighty ACCO and as you disconnect the jumper leads you see dirty water running off the gear box, so ya back the truck into the shed and switch off. Wild guess, welsh plug gone in back of the block.
8 months later you need the truck so have a look. :S

Not a welsh plug, just a pin hole in the plate on the end of the head.

so.... what now. IS the plate replaceable with a bit of flat steel from my scrap pile or is it cast iron, and or can I just put a false skin (sheet metal) inside/under the plate and bolt it back on.

Obviously I need to flush the block and get some rust inhibitor into the system.... she needs a rebuild or transplant but now is not the time.

Thanks for taking the time.

Which ever is easiest, A bit of flat plate will be fine.
If it is only one hole and the rest is OK, a bit of welding may do.

The original plate is pressed sheetmetal, not very thick..........but if you have a series 3 or 4 motor,no inhibitor use will end up with a mystery leak between head and block inside........which is caused by pinholing of the stud sleeve.

The usual fix is to cut a full gasket from thin rubber sheet, that stops the leaks without any need for fixing the steel plate........any kind of proper repairs get you thrown out of the "Perkins Driver Club".......which is an official Perkins activity with a 10 /- payout for serious injury caused by a Perkins.

Thanks gents, Weld and old inner tube rubber gasket might be the go with some Silastic gasket smeared all over, and if'n the weld is a bit crappy, put it back inside out. No time to muck about mighty ACCO has a job to do or at least be ready to do.
