730 hp V8 Scania

Just trying to stay cool, it’s too hot for me, a truck news comes to my front page sometimes ANYWAY it had a head line “” new Scania V8 “” telling the story about redesign there V8’s with euro 6 , 7 or Eight and how the emmisions , I took a little snippet.

Have to ask Rex how those figures stack up against his Volvo??

I have no idea as to a comparison on the other hand we are running 700 Volvos and 2763 Mercedes the 700 Volvo is 700 HP Mercedes is 630 HP. Both have '''I'' shift Volvo with 2 speed extremely low gearing Mercedes with a torque convertor that only operates up to 5km / hr. If you want my opinion the 630 HP is enough but the power war between Volvo and Scania has been going since 350 HP was a big truck. Fortunately Mercedes are not all that much interested in what their Northern neighbours are upto and for me that is good

I've always wondered why they make a big deal about Horsepower,

Wouldn't torque be of more interest in a truck motor, simply for pulling power?

I know HP is a function of torque but that is driven by how many revs you can get out of the engine.

I wonder if Scania and Volvo still use metric horsepower, it tends to lift the power figures some what .. I’m. It saying they are , I heard they go and almost car like, just wondering

Theyre quiet ,too......one parks outside a bit ,when he takes off of a night ,less noise than a car .....no deafening hisses ,clanks ,rattles and bangs like some trucks you could name.

John I have a question for you, I know 345’s were mostly made in Australia, I’ve heard that some parts are not interchangeable, are the intake manifolds ok to swap or are the coolant passages in the wrong place ? I am looking at buying a new intake manifold . Jim

No ,Im thinking about trucks called K Mart ,or something like that.......Dunno about your manifold ,as the motors were made for many years ,and often early stuff is different to late.
