Timing is set at T.D.C., spark plug gap is .030" and dwell is 28-32 degrees.

Lang are you sure ignition timing is set at TDC?

Many useful things fall off trucks

That is from a 1973 American International 1110 workshop manual.

There is a bit of discussion on the International site saying if the 345 is pushed to 3 deg BTDC they are prone to overheat before any detonation is evident. Like all discussions there are people for and against.

Here is a bloke showing how to time a 345. He suggests maximum 5 deg BTDC.

This bloke says 8 deg BTDC but it is on a Scout which consistently runs higher revs than a truck.

When available I always set the points by dwell, just seems to be a better result.

These came out of my international workshop manual , these should be relevant specs for a 345 Just remember that when you time the engine with a timing light the pickup must be on cyl 8 , cheers , jim.

Why on #8 Rattail? I've not heard of that before and on the car V8's I've had I always did it on #1 with no issues.

Yes the correct cylinder is number 8 not number 1 like every other V8 in the world , remember I have one too , I timed mine on number 8 the other day and it’s running perfect, Here is just one example below cobba
