I said it was simple!.....Then ya have Jakes....IMHO ,Jakes on a 8/71 mean it takes twice as long to rebuild as an industrial motor.

Well here we are , back to your 671 rebuild. If you are doing an in chassis job, things are pretty
well straight forward. But you want to change the configuration , so , a bit more thinking is required.
You think you have sorted out the cam rotation bit , so on to the next thing. You have decided you want
the blower on the opposite side of the engine. That sounds easy, as the block is symmetrical , you just
end for end it and there the blower is now on the other side. But hang on, that means the blower has been
end for ended too, so your blower drive is now at the front instead of the back, and your governor is at
the back instead of the front of the blower assembly . Thats a bummer isnt it ?? So what happens here ?, it looks like the blower
has to be dismantled and virtually re assembled mirror reversed to the old set up.
Sounds like this idea of yours is getting more involved as time goes by..............
How does all that sound, ok or not .....................

Sounds just ducky, except the blower drive from the rear of the motor will no longer be there as it will be stuck in casting on the other side of the bell housing, do we call that the bell housing if it isnt the doo dah around the clutch ?

.Good thinking there Paul........... the blower drive bit i was referring to is on the end of the blower.
You are right ........ the actual drive gear will stay with the end plate and flywheel housing .......
The end plate (i think ) can be flipped over, how ever it now looks like you are up for another flywheel
housing with the drive gear gismo on the other side .......It just seems to get more expensive dozen it..........

There are left and right hand flywheel housings....so you need the housing and end plate to suit the drive side you want....and also the size flywheel and bellhousing ,there are #1 and #2 in inlines.

I saw something interesting in the video at the 3:25 mark - a brochure with an 8V92T 375hp@2100rpm, probably a green engine. I thought all the lower power models were fuel squeezers governed at 1950.

Here we go ......another installment of your 671 build up ................
Now that you have decided on the configuration of your Jimmy to suit your application , it time to think
about throwing it together. You have decided to have the blower and the exhaust on the R/H side of the donk.
You have acquired a flywheel housing with the blower drive on the right hand side , and have already stripped
and rebuilt the blower so that the driven bit is on the rear and the governor and water pump is on the front.
What you cannot get away from now is all that rotational bit ..................so a detailed inspection of the
schematics (pic) of the timing gear set up is required to get everything in the right spot so that it will run.
It wouldnt be the first inline build up that wouldnt start because some thing was in the wrong possy.
Later , you have to pick ONE camshaft out of four that are available for a build up...............
One rh rotation , one lh rotation for a left hand rotating donk .............
One rh rotation, one lh rotation for a right hand rotating donk ............
As your 671 is going in your favorite machine , it will be a R/H rotation engine , so this limits
your choice to one of two camshafts that has to be used for your build configuration .........
This will be sorted out after you do a bit more thinking..........
Looking at the pic of the timing gears and all the directional arrows. you notice something odd.........
The arrow on your R/H rotating donk shows the flywheel going in a L/H direction ...................
Why is that so ............well all the directions of the timing gears are taken looking forward at the flywheel,
BUT , engine rotation is taken while looking at the front (crank pulley) of the donk.
Having sorted that bit out , before the cam is decided on, blower rotation has to be sorted out otherwise
no puff ,no go.....
With the exhaust on the R/H side ,the cam will be on the L/H side of the block, and the balance shaft will be
on the R/H side of the block and will drive the blower drive gear .........
The rotational direction of the blower drive gear will be governed by the position of the idler gear, whether driving
the cam or the balance shafts................( You need the idler on the L/H side) , so..............
In your case the idler gear will drive the camshaft, which will drive the balance shaft , which will drive the
blower drive gear so that the blower will now rotate in the proper direction and provide the puff required to
run the donk.
Now ...... back to the camshaft. ............It is now turning anti clockwise so , Right said Fred, picking up a L/H cam
for a R/H rotating donk , thats what we shall throw into the 671 and pray..............
Seeing as the donk is staying a right hander .....starter and oil pump should be OK.
This is another Ripley, .....Believe it or not situation .................. Hows that. sound..........???????????????

Yes, I agree, why would you???
Actually after looking for, and posting it here, I noticed this is not the clip I watched this morning - the one I watched was shorter re the destruction BUT then they dismantled the engine explaining all the finer points of the two stroke engine and how it worked and why they had decided to attempt the runaway. If you care to look for it (I'm not going to) it is far more worthy to watch than what I posted.
