My short answer would be Yes. The piston and valves don't know which way the crank is turning, Piston going down, sucking. Piston coming up, blowing.

Is it possible that it might make vacuum and not pressure?
Should be a quick answer. Connect a battery drill to it.

With a refrigeration compressor..
A reciprocating compressor doesn’t matter which way it rotates. I assume the Bendix compressor is a standard recip.

A scroll compressor will only pump if the rotation is correct. It sounds the same but doesn’t pump.

Swishy, if the Compressor is pressure lubricated, there are no troubles. Some compressors which are splash lubricated have to have the little dipper thing on the bottom of the conrod turned around to scoop up the oil in the right direction. Kav.

Will the ports be reversed?

Guy turned up outside driving an old Commer Knocker ......said he bought it from a scrapyard,and I believed him......plates swap ,apparently.......anyhoo it had no brakes ,well not much ,because it had no air pressure......the old Commer compressor ran off one of the rockers.......the conrod of the compressor was bent into a Z shape.......I had a spare rod and piston ,fitted and off he went......back next day ,brakes still no good .....pulled the head off ,and there is no intake valve ......seems to have gone thru the works .......he offers me $1 to fix it ,which is all he has ......so I get a 2c piece ,file it flat ,a spring from a biro ,fit it all in the head .....and its making air .......he couldnt have been happier with a new Kenworth.

He might have been happier with a new Kenworth, but he’d miss the nice Knocker note.

the early Kenilworths mostly had sweet sound n 2 stroke diesels (jist like the knoker 2 strokers)

HAd to fir a large pulley to slow the compressor down.. . ..... dun think it twould like 8000 rpm
