Who remembers when they were building the new rail line from Alice Springs to Darwin the fella carting all the rail lines in big long lengths on a road train with lots of self steering axles or some such thing
Was on maybe one of those Kenworth promotional videos back in say the early 2000s

Anybody know much about this ?

historic transport moves, including the specialised transport of rail for the Alice Springs to Darwin rail line in 2001-2003. 145,000 Tonne of rail was transported for this project—construction of the rail line between to the two major cities of the Northern Territory.

In the great land of the Maple Leaf and maple syrup they carry their long long lengths of track on the train itself. The track flexes with the carriages and they drop the track off at the replacement points while on the move. A strange and very in teresting way of delivering.

Cobba,

We do that in NSW but that's for replacement rail. Probably 100-150 lengths.

New rail is a bit of a problem as there isn't a rail line for the train. Yet.
