RE:   odd axle arrangements
Spose we fit right in here
to cart an indivisable loads
we are granted extra axle loadings
eg: a 3x4 that B 3 rows of axles with 4 tyres on each axle we get 25t
a 2 x 4 on a tandem drive truck or trailer axles we are granted 18.5t
we run 2 close cuple non turning dollys th@ are hooked onto truck with a 5th wheel (turntable)
this grants us 25t t over the dolly group
years later others tried by running a pusher axle on air bag suspension in front of the tandem drive truck just behind the tucks cab to be granted 25t on the drive n lazy group
the authorities @ the time outlawed  this lazy axle group mainly because when being weighed the driver in the cab was adjusting the air bags via a in cab control valve to his advantage
 a pic of our setup

Some times called Silly Wheels
LOL

Thanks for that, I was pretty sure I had stumbled across the photo on the FB page and went looking for it again with no luck
FB pages move so quickly that it's hard to find things again

Swishman, I remember getting pulled up by the authorities in Beaudesert whilst driving my old Atkinstein- well actually, it was my brother driving, he didn't actually have a license so I gave him my wallet, but when the copper asked him his birthday he couldn't remember! So I had to prompt a bit "ah, the 19th isn't it Andrew?"  "oh yeah, that's right!"..
So I copped a bloody log book fine when I wasn't even driving!
To add to the general confusion,. I had picked up a young lady with a damn near newborn baby a couple of days prior, she was hitch hiking out of West Wyalong, so there were four of us in the day cab Atki.. "Bit squeezy in there?' said the copper...."ah, yeah nah?" I replied...
Anyway short story long, the Atkinson had a airbag lazy pusher on it, I never knew why Dad said "don't ever tell anyone that that axle lifts up", and that always stuck with me- especially when the copper / RTA whoever it was started sniffing around asking all sorts of questions about it.
So "of course not, officer" was the answer when he asked if we could lift that axle..
Cheers
Rich
