At the time there were some 60 foot long train carraiges in amongst the pine trees and we never quoted on moving them cos thery were too long for us back then to cart
LOL
( 2 days ago I wrote Part H ............. n it all pissappeared .............. now eye kno how Morris feels LOL ) OK onto Part H v:2
Part H
Bill was approached by the Caterpillar agent William Adams and the saleman requested to show a promotional movie for Hyster as W.A. were agents for
I can remember the movie of the Martin Hyster Folding Gooseneck Low Loader My Farther Bill said 'We must have' so W/A imported the Low Loader on his behalf
The LowLoader was a Low , short deck on 15inch wheels with air mecanical brakes with the folding gooseneck
It was set up on a short single drive White 3000 with Winch, ramps and roller with a Quick Release turntable
it worked 6 days a week daylight to dark and some
The Hight Tensile T1 steel made the hole rig resonable light as it was unheard of back then for a single drive truck and tandem trailer to legally cat a C@ D7 dozer
Pix taken @ William Adams Tractors Dandenong Rd East Oakleigh
Bill took the Low Loader around to a local trailer builder STECO and requested th@ they copy the Low Loader for him
STECO started makeing the trailer and before they finished they said a local bloke would also like a copy as he was only carting his own machines
This other joker then ended as as strong oposition to Bills work ( if only he had put a 50pound bounty om each Folding Gooseneck Low Loader STECO made)
Over the years STECO made about 5 folding Gooseneck Low Loaders for Bill
The Army approached Bill for his thourghts on STECO and the folding gooseneck low loader .... and they placed an order
the army specs said that the trailer needs to be able to go over a 12" diameter log with out bellying out
so STECO designed the trailer and made the rear tail frame very high so the axles can raise 12" ( the walking beams on the suspension would belly out any way)
Bill tried one of these High RSend Low Loaders with the box sections between the wheels at a lower height
the next folder was made by Fruehauf .... No more STECO as they were trying to make the ARMYs version a standard

You're right about the ass end of the Steco, I need oxygen if I stand up on mine
Do you still have any of the original Steco's Swishman or have they all moved on over time ?

Mrs
gudday m8
The hi RSend might not bother U 2 much but it was an effort to climb rubber tyred machines along the deck then climb up on the RSend specially when wet n greasy mud on the tyres
all steco's all gorn ............. but we stihl have the Hyster FGN ( not in use @ the mo )
Seed
m80 would imagine BHH did cart some machinery for Whelan the Wrecker way back when but they have had new owners
one of BHH subbies had a Leyland Hippo and when he left he ran the WtW recyclin yard @ Coburg
www.roadtransporthall.com/inductee?id=1244
Last I heard WtW was owned by Delta
Part i
Bill decided he needed a new truck so contacted Whites in Swanston St Melb and asked for a short cab White 3000 with a GM 2 stoke diesel and tandem drive
his idea was to use the truck after modifications to drag a new 3 axle STECO FGNLL
the word came back from White in the U.S. 'Cant do GM power in Right Hand Drive but can do a petrol powered V8
then word came back 'Sorry can't do V8 in right hand drive but can do with a 6 cylinder OHC engine in RHD
So Bill told m 'send any bloody thing and make it a single drive'
I waggd school one day and went with farther on the Spirit of Progress Train leaving Melb after dark and arrived in Sydney following day
we went to pick up the new White 3000 @ White Trucks in Sydney followed by a long drive home
the truck rear axle was removed and the tandem drive from the White Mustang was transplanted to the new 3000 also Wicnch, ramp, roller and QRTT fitted but with a 6 cylinder motor it made hard work of travelling the suburbs of Melbourne
I Was passenger in the truck with the mechanic driving and as he pulled out of a tip site the beast caught fire ( we all agreed the best thing th@ could happen to the POS)
At about the same era BHH took delivery of the KW S925 and told Ed Cameron it would be used on light duties towing a 2 axle FGNLL.
after the 3000 was burnt the 3 axle float was then towed by the KW S925
As the truck was fully loaded going up past Camerons on Doncaster Rd Ed Camerons Jaw droped when waving to us to see the KW fully loaded towing a 3 axle trailer as he would have liked it on smaller trailers and loads in case it broke down ans gave Ed and KW a bad name
most of cab damage from a can of Aerostart kept in cab for the hard to start machinery loads
