I havent done this , I have fitted a few powersteering upgrades over the years to different vehicles

I have found the 60 series Landcruiser steering box to be fairly adaptable to most smaller trucks and the like
A ram type of powersteering for bigger trucks and maybe even Bedford buses ?

A power steering pump off the good old XD - XF Falcon is very adaptable and seems to have plenty of turning power

It might be worth looking at electric power steering. This is highly popular with the hot rod and race car people because it only needs the column to be cut for the small unit to be inserted leaving the original steering system intact. More and more modern vehicles can be found in wreckers with these units.

I was at a mate 's place where they do nothing but build rally and race cars and he was inserting a Holden Barina electric steering unit on a rally cross machine. He said it usually takes him about 4 hours for the whole job. He said the natural assumption that a heavy vehicle will require a huge heavy unit is not so. Drivers only have so much strength and everything from a Ford Fiesta to a Mack has a steering wheel rim leverage within human limits. To make a vehicle driveable, no matter the size, the gearing of the steering box and the diametre of the wheel are designed so that even a jockey sized bloke can drive it continuously. Some old vehicles are certainly on the upper limits but not so wildly out of the ball park they require huge assistance.

Here is a tested Toyota Aristo (Commodore size vehicle) from an importer with warranty for $90 on Gumtree in Braeside Vic. Would be easy to take a section out of the Bedford steering column and slot this complete unit in.
