Just thought I,d share my experiences with my trusty D1310 Inter Horse Truck.
She is very sound still going strong for 33 years old. Had a new Horse box made for the back.
Has extractors on the exhaust and has had gas put on her.
She travels from Perth to the South West with 2 horses and loaded for camping and has only failed once and that wasn,t a motor failure but a break failure.
Going around a very large roundabout in Bunbury and a slight bit of rain went to slow down and found the breaks had stopped working.
Had lots of dust in the drum and with the rain it had turned to Mud so the pads where just skimming the shoes. Not nice when you have a horse in the back and you are going to turn left around the roundabout at about 55kmh. The Gear Box got a work out as I used it to reduce my acceleration. Managed to avoid the cars and she stayed on two wheels for a short distance. wasn,t sure whether we where going to go over or level out. The gods where with us and we stayed upright .
Horse in back was scrambling to stay on his feet. Arrived at the Campdraft I was competing at and luckily it was a hot weekend so the drums dried out and I drove her home without incident.
Yes I now have a totally new break system so we don,t have a repeat of that incident. Will post a photo to do her Justice, I am very proud of my truck and where she takes me.

Near Wodonga Vic, there was a new Fire Tanker truck (Now 15 Years old) that had a new driver in it, he thought he new best and hit a BIG Roundabout at 80Kmh and did NOT slow down, they stated that the truck got up on 2 and some how stayed there till the truck got passed the roundabout, then it bounced back down on all 4, they also stated the people on the back of the truck were WHITE and was kissing the ground when they finally stopped, but some how the D.H. is still driving the trucks and he did slow down when he was told that he might loose his license.

Welcome Annie!
Great to have another one of you from way over in the west join us. I hope you enjoy yourself on the forum.
Also I would like to say that congrats on having another wonderful International truck. Some people are just so envious!
My Inter is a bit older than your truck being an AB series. But it also has extractors as it appears to be a common fault craking of the exhaust manafold. Bparo's has that problem also.
Certainly as you indicate mechanically they don't appear to fail. They just keep going. But they can certainly get the old heart going at times! Come to think of it the only time I have had concerns about my inter is in relation to stopping (familar with most old trucks) and a couple of times excess speed (appears to only be an issue with Inters (definately not Bedfords ))
Seriously welcome Annie we are a crazy lot but we are crazy over our trucks! Have fun and continue to work that truck!
Did you make any changes to the brake system?
