Hi Lang how are you today? probabely getting away from topic but bit of a shot ball and chain pulling here vimeo.com/482458132 and some where i once saw in the early days when tractors were smaller low hp, blokes be following with forked sticks lifting the wire rope up most likely 1/2 inch rope think it was in qld maybe on youtube

I love the way these posts meander around just like having a yarn with mates go off on a tangent end up who knows where then all of a sudden you get back to where you started never know what you might learn in the meandering

A ship the size of the Titanic needed some serious stopping gear!
The anchor commissioned for the vessel weighed a whopping 16 tonnes, and was forged at Noah Hingley & Sons ironworks in Netherton, in England’s Midlands. In order to get the anchor to the Titanic, it needed to be transported from the Netherton ironworks to Dudley Railway Station, where it was taken by train to Lancashire before being loaded on a cargo steamer for the voyage to the Titanic‘s shipyard in Belfast, Northern Ireland. All well and good for the train and the boat; but how could the anchor reach the train in the first place?
The answer came in the form of twenty Shire horses, each capable of pulling about two tonnes. On the 30th of April, 1911, the town trams were stopped and the townsfolk lined the roads to watch the horses haul the anchor 3.2km to the goods yard at Dudley Railway Station.

It is amazing just what photos exist out there

Even stranger, to me at least is that if the Titanic had never sunk in the way it did, maiden voyage and all no one would even mention it

I believe there were two other sister ships, was one Olympus or something and no idea at all so best shut up

Another thought that amazes me is, how would you go getting something that oversize carted on rail in this day and age?

Close. :)

RMS Olympic and RMS Britannic were the sister ships. The latter hitting a mine in WW1 after less than 12 months in service but the Olympic did manage to survive 24 years before being scrapped.

Probably yesterday, Sunday May 8th on the Historic Commercial Vehicle Society (of GB) London to Brighton Run of 50-odd miles, with an very early Morning start
