Have inter C 1600 with 281 eng single speed 6.16 diff.
At 50mph eng revs 2800
At 55mph eng revs 3200

Would like to reduce revs at 50-55 mph.

Any suggestions

Thank you,
Maurice.

That diff ratio makes me ask, is the truck a 4x4?

I thought C1600's had a 2 speed Diff..??

Maurice, Back when they were Brand new the speed limit for Trucks was 50MPH, hence the gearing..!

You're either going to put a 5 speed Overdrive Box in It, Or change the Diff Ratio..

But remember, making it go faster Also makes it harder to Stop..!!

What tyre size? 7.50x20? Could maybe go up to 8.25. I don't know what other diff ratios there are for that size axle. Bearing in mind, if you gear up very much, it won't pull a load.

Running 9.00 x 20 tyres shouldn't be a problem to pick up a bit of speed. I'm guessing your truck would have 5 stud disc wheels? I doubt you will find any faster diff from that model/era. You might find a faster ratio diff from a 410/510/610 Acco, but i'm not sure on pumpkin/housing compatibility, or swapping the whole diff as i imagine the 410/510 Acco diffs would have smaller brakes. I have a fast (5.41/7.44:1) 2 speed Rockwell in a 1730a Acco, but that has spider hubs.

The other option is to find and fit a T34 overdrive gearbox. Expensive gearbox to buy if you can find one, and a bit of work to make fit.

I've got a chart (somewhere) that tells you how many Revs per Mile/Km each size Tyre does.. But Can't Find It...(& Google is No help)

From memory, If you step up to 10..0x20 Tyres you will either go 10-12% faster or your Revs drop 10-12%...BISTBC
