Would anyone have a figure on fuel consumption for a 1979 International 1830B diesel and 1810B petrol versions

Thank you
Maurice.

A few weeks ago i did a test on my 1830c with D358. Bobtail prime mover averaged 14.7MPG over 250km. It used noticeably more coming home towing an empty 40' drop deck, i didn't actually test that, but just by the gauge i am guessing 9MPG over 250km. Coming home was fine on the flat but it found every hill, but that is to be expected for the power it has. I was happy with its performance, and it is super reliable. I would guess the mileage from a Perkins would be similar if not a bit better.

I would be surprised if you ever saw any better than 6MPG average out of a 345 petrol, less from a 392. We tested our C1820 with 345, lightly loaded, over approx. 400km, and it averaged 8MPG, but that has an overdrive gearbox which helps on the highway, but it doesn't see top gear often in normal use.

On a slightly different slant, at Panucci with the 6 cyl petrol in the 190 Inters single drive bogie trailer 3 mpg was average

I can remember clearly my Commer Perkins returning day-in day-out an average 12mpg with a single axle trailer.

Speed uses fuel. The old days of Perkins and two stroke Commers you had 50mph on a very good day.
Dad’s two strokes were like clockwork, 14mpg on our runs. Most of the time they were 45mph.
What a shock when the first Beaver went under the same trailer, speeds were unbelievable. Fuel consumption dropped to 11pm but we could fit in an extra load per day with greatly reduced driver fatigue.
