NMP Lang I wonder if your Thornycroft was originally a PMG truck.

There is every possibility this may be the very truck. I thought the paint was just red primer but it could well be faded PMG red? Something for Rex to look at with a bit of sandpaper.

For the sleuths; here is the link to Thornycroft chassis lists, up to 1956 which might just miss Rex's example.

I think Rex's three axle Trusty would be an RF with 100hp NR6 engine If you know build date or chassis no it can be nailed.
Later versions had the 'modern' QR6 engine (as fitted to Ron Toy's Mastiff)

Here is Hamish's reply to My Question regarding the Cab Mrsmack..

Hayseed, it's an Autolifts cab made by Autolifts & Engineering Co. of Blackburn, England. These cabs were also fitted to 1950s Albions as well. This is a 1955 Albion Claymore FT27 model in the Bill Richardson collection in N.Z. with the same type of cab. Obviously the lower part is different between the Atkinson and Albion, but the top half and windows are the same.

The Bill Richardson Albion has an Autolifts cab as previously noted, however I can't see that this or part of it is the same as the Atkinson cab. For one thing the Atki has sharp corners to the doors whereas the defining feature of Autolifts export cab was rounded corners to the doors.
