I got complementary informations to those given by Detective in its last post concerning the TNT/Rudders relationships. In fact Rudders joined the TNT stable in 1961 through the acquisition of some operations managed by Cargo Mercury Group itself belonging to the british group TDG.

Rudders as an international sea freight forwarder and custom agents was involved in moving imported products such as VW and Fiat cars. This activity later expanded in metropolitain movements of manufactured vehicles and then Rudders became the nuclious of what will become the TNT Car Carrying division.

Rudders vanished from the TNT' s companies listing in the early 70's but the Group give it a new life in the eighties as TNT Rudders offering international air and sea forwarding, customs clearance and transport consulting;services feeded by the TNT fast worldwide expansion.

Mammoth, was that bloody terrible jigger ever registered in Qld ?

It looks very familiar to me.

Reckon it had on the side an ALLTRANS sticker at one stage.

By the way, is the stirring stick set right back down near the back wall, and the stick about 5 ft long with a throw that you belt your knuckles on the engine cowl, when going into grandma ?

Greenie, the gear change you describe would be the Albion set up. This one is all Leyland and the gear stick comes straight up by your left ankle- 6 speed overdrive plus deep reduction on another lever which some drivers used as a splitter.
I have no way of telling where it has been registered. There are remains of stickers on the doors but I can't make them out.

May be able to shed a little light on these TNT Fleet no's.
young fella is on the right track with the numbering,
1 would mean the truck was first seen in service in NSW
K would mean kwikasair.
A would mean ARTICULATED truck.
then the running numbers.
All PUD trucks up to 12 tonne would be **D*** the D is for PICK UP AND DELIVERY
1 for nsw,3 for vic etc
K was for KWIKASAIR
P was for COMET
T was for ALLTRANS.
N was for TNT EXPRESS or COUNTRY EXPRESS.
C was for CARPENTARIA TRANS (NQX AND QRX)
kenworth trucks in the fleet from earlier when all trucks where painted peaches and cream had a similar numbering system
1KT135 would have been, nsw kenworth truck number 135,this was given up on arrival of painted livery for each division.sometimes when a subbies truck was numbered it had an S so a Cairns based QRX subbie was
4CS***, 4 for QLD ,C for Carpentaria,s for subbie then numbers.
so Mammoth your's would have been
1 for nsw
R for RUDDERS
D for PUD
and then the running numbers .

Rene, I think you will find that there are different fleet number prefix's for QRX, NQX and Carpentaria, they were operated as seperate divisions. I used to subbie for Carpentaria, but I towed an NQX trailer.
