fitting a winch to a tipper

I've got a 1400 Isuzu with a drop side tipper and hiab, forver needing to drag things up onto the tray or the trailer. It's no good for the hiab to use it like a winch so question is.....fitting a hydraulic winch and some locking pins to the front of the body to stop it getting pulled up? Has anyone done it? I'd probably mount it between the body and hiab with a doghouse over the rollers etc. Not enough room for chassis mount between body and hiab. Already got another fuel tank under the tipper so no room there. Comment? Suggestions?

Would depend on the winch linepull and the construction of the body ......Ive got a 10 ton linepull hydraulic winch mounted on the tilttray on my old Leyland ,and nothing moves ...the tray isnt pinned down at the front ,but its very solid.....the winch easily breaks the rope ,its broken now.

Body is pretty well made with double lift rams for the underbody hoist. I've got a big old garwood with a hydraulic motor on it but I think I'd go a more modern one for this, much smaller size and weight.

Because you have hydraulics already there it is a good choice over electric. I was able to bolt my winch to the front of the tray against the coaming. Have not had it under max weight but have pulled the dumpy up and down plus the David Brown, both are relatively light weights really.
Something to consider is you do need a straight pull but you can get that simply by using a single pulley in the middle of the tray and wich on one side. Obviously that pulley will need to be mounted well.

The winch on the Leyland is an Olding off a MkIII ACCO,driven by a nondescript hydraulic motor (Telecom auction /mixed lot of pumps ,motors ,and hydraulic bits and pieces) via a chain drive.....it uses the same valving as the Atlas crane on the truck ,and the same pressure ,and the thing is literally unstoppable .....it breaks 5/8 rope like it was spider web.

Wire rope.....same as on the army trucks ..........I had four rolls of new army winch wire ,unfortunately it was all in contact with wet wood in the container ,its now scrap ,I think........very expensive now too......something like $15/m
