I’m looking for the whereabouts of one of
the first G88 to come to Australia
originally sold to Bowers transport Proserpine nth QLD and then to AWR Rasmussen Mackay and finally Mc Aleese transport. From here we have no idea what happened to it and we hope it is still alive and going well. Any information on this truck would be greatly appreciated.

The first to come to Aus was actually an F88, sold by Brown & Hurley on 26/11/68. It was restored by Volvo apprentices and Volvo in their wisdom ground off the chassis number. However Max Winkless has had a good look at it at it's current location at Hall of Fame and confirmed the authenticity.
Don't know about the first G88. A few were imported and when Wacol production commenced in 1971 only G88's were built with no more F88's either built or imported until a batch of 51 UK types were imported in 1975. Aussie built G88's can be identified by having spider hubs, imported having either trilex or disc wheels.
For the full story of early Volvos in Aus look up my articles in Vintage Trucks & Commercials Magazine some years back.
