The fibreglass extensions were very expensive, like $200 in 1970 ,and my guess would be the fire brigade got sick of replacing broken ones ,and just rolled out the guards ..............lots of young guys used to do the same with their cars ,so the guard covered the wide tyres from above .......which was a favourite with the coppers to breach hot car owners.

Well I'm gunna take a big serve of humble pie thank you
But there is more to this truck than we know about
So me been the looser I am, I zoomed in on the photos and was surprised
There is a seam I can see back under the flare
Now the big surprise was the front wheel, thats a little different
Dunno if a narrow front axle has been fitted or a tubeless rim has been made, no matter it is different
Paul

Photos all fixed now Prodrive great pix too. I loved the R190's, would've been a noisy bugger with the GM in it thought. The old petrol motor pulled ok and sounded great in my opinion.

Great photos Rich
the Otways were R 190 and IH territory
Richards cousins were my neighbors as a kid growing up, they were literary thru the back fence
So I'm gunna run this thread ogf the rails for a moment
A young Lyndon McRae , Rich's cousin I believe, standing beside a S line of Don McKay's
Now Don McKay had R 190s , when I was a lad they all had 653 or 471 GM's
oh the sweet sound of them climbing up out of Gellibrand towards the ridge of the Otway ranges
Anyway some more photos of Don McKays trucks
Don Mckay was based in Colac

These photos and stories mean a lot to me thanks Paul and Rich. Produce from farming districts, forests, quarries and mines being transported on local trucks.
We’re lucky to have these memories.
