PMG (post master general) paint was created by VW1957
Hi.
Would anyone here have any ideas on what the paint colour/code is that was used to paint the PMG fleet?? Was there any variants???
I own a 1957 VW T2 Panel van that I only recently found served its time in Australia as a cable jointers van (that, unbelievably is what I do for a living)
I would really like to restore some very bad paint jobs that have been done in the past.

Don’t know about a paint code, but I’m pretty sure it was called post office red.

From A VW Forum
Ive just bought another 4 litres of PMG from my local spies hecker shop and the matchthey came up with for my 67 van, which was a perfect match to the paint behind the window rubbers was AUST post red, spies hecker number 38839 indent number HA5783, with 30 grams extra Magenta / litre.
Hope this helps, I also have the Illustrator file of the PMG logo itself if it is of any help.
Cheers

I repainted parts of an Inter D1910 I got off PMG ,and the colour was a standard IH one .."Mt Newman Red" ........my D1310 also had PMG on the door when I got it ,and Id assume it was the same colour.

Gryphon,
The wheels are pre-74 Porsche 911 wheels.
They had the silver centre to the spokes, which became all black in 1970.
My Dad used to buy Kombis and Commers at the Aussie Post Auctions when I was a kid.
We (two sisters, Mum, Dad and myself) lived in an ex-PMG Kombi for 7 months in 1966 driving around Europe.

Kombis are great fun to drive but give me the shivers about safety. No engine to absorb impact just the weight behind driving you further into the collision.
Two o'clock in the morning outside Wangaratta 1965. Head on collision between a Kombi and a Holden. The Holden had gone right under the Kombi and the driver suffered broken ribs and smashed face but walked away. Meanwhile in the Kombi the husband was impaled on the steering column dead.
Only trucks on the road and drivers took it in turn to hold up the wife who had gone through the screen but had her legs crushed in the wreckage, She alternated between groaning and screaming for nearly an hour before the firemen cut her out mainly with an axe and eventually oxy acetylene in the days before "jaws of life". She lost not only a husband but both legs. Not a nice memory for an 18 year old. Didn't realise until it got daylight my clothes were soaked in blood.

Thats a big risk with all the smaller frward controlls .....Dynas ,Hi Aces ,even the 2 ton trucks ......you have a front end crash ,knees are gone at least...........When I was in the guvmint ,they had two Honda TN 30 vans that were popular cause you could park in the city in the ministerial underground car park ........one day one of the hospital guys said if you have a crash in that ,it will be like hitting a tin of sardines with a sledgehammer.
