I've been toying about fitting one of these to our 2020 Hiace which is now our tow vehicle for the caravan. Then to choose which one was also daunting n how much prices vary.
Well i bought one online from Western Filters Sydney, a Mann Provent catch can. They make many different kits specifically for different model vehicles so prices vary a lot.
The kit arrived this morning n its all fitted by lunch time. Had to remove the air box which was not hard apart from a hidden bolt but it was OK. Every part of this kit went straight into place lining up with existing brackets or bolts, it was a dream to fit. Hardest part was deciding where to run the drain tube n not get in the way of other things or future servicing. Now to try it out later this month when we head off again with the caravan.

Thank you all, yes, I have seen them on old GM's but I just thought they were a hillbilly way of stopping oil from dripping of everthing, didn't think they had a real name.

As that video that Lang kindly posted it draws the fumes/vapour from the rocker cover into the can then it passes through a filter that this one has a pressure relief valve in it in case you have not drained it regularly. From there it goes into the air intake before the inlet manifold via the EGR valve so the contaminents / oil are removed so to reduce any rubbish blocking the EGR valve and inlet manifold. This should now reduce imensely the amount of rubbish entering the inlet manifold.
All internal combustion engines can run a catch can as they all create the same issue with oil vapours and condensation being sent through the EGR valve.

Interesting, do you need a PCV valve for a catch can ?
Most diesels I have looked, thinking all of them don't have a PCV valve
Maybe my little Isuzu trucks do ?
Certainly no bigger trucks or tractors

How often do you expect to drain it Cobba ?
It will be interesting to see how long is expected and how long it needs to be
Many years ago I put a big resuse drain on the farm to catch irrigation run off, well the water really was of little use, but the big shock was just how much I was over watering as I now had a device to measure exactly what was getting wasted
I wonder if the catch can has some guide lines, empty each month, if more often than this the motor requires a rebuild ?
All very interesting Cobba

The catch can on my 6 cylinder Navara STX550 holds about 2 cups. On its regular 10,000km service it is emptied of around 3/4 to 1 cup of oil.
