Hey. Certainly a lot of work in that but it does look great. Not sure I have the time for a long term project like that, too many other small projects on the go currently. I was thinking of going down the path of using a small single axle prime mover and turning it into a ‘Ute’ using a dually style side tray off an F series ford or C series Chev.

it would be on historic rego and just for fun and laughs really. I’d likely put a pintle hook on it then I could use a tag trailer if I wanted to cart one of my old cars or whatever around with it.

The types of trucks I’ve been spit balling would
be like a old bonneted Ford Louisville or for a Cab over something like a Scania 113.

Any thoughts on nice shaped trucks with a shortish wheelbase? Also happy for you to tell me I’m bloody mad and give me a list of reasons for why I would be an idiot to do it. I recognise it would be a pretty rough ride in the cab with little weight on the back. Not looking at a big dollar build either. Cheap and cheerful is my go to for this if it eventuates.

Cheers,

Urchy

Thought the IH Loadstar Dually Ute at Yarra Glen a few years back was really well built.
Perhaps the owner could offer a few clues on building and engineering this type of rig for on road use.

Maybe something like the 1986 F600, looks like a standard F350 cab with the Louie type front end and wide front axle. Round up a dual cab and go for it. Bi biased as I have a F350 dually, dual cab and think that front end would look good on it. Minister of finance department thinks otherwise.

Goddamn Blackduck59. A big dual cab is right up my alley too. Not sure how one of these or similar like a C50/60 and the like hasn’t crossed my mind.

Just found this. Looks great to me.

Thanks for your input mate, it’s appreciated.

There is a Kenworth running around Victoria with a small, ute style, tray and the what seems to be the world's heaviest duty 6x4 trailer. I have seen it at Lancefield and on Crawlin but can't find any pictures of it.  It was built by a diesel mechanic from "spare parts".  He also has a Yellow IPEC Gumboot.

Yes that's the one. I know him from school (many decades ago, last century even). He was in the year above me

Here is another picture of this combo, with the owner and his wife, taken in 2015 at one of the Ayers Rock look out stops when they were on their way to the Alice Springs reunion. He told us that he fills the rear fuel tanks with water to add some more weight on the drive when bobtailing.
