Depending on how damaged the end of the axle  thread is, you can use a thread file to reform the damaged threads.

In some cases, you can make a thread chasing nut: you find a nut of the correct size and use a Dremel or a small file to cut 2 or 4  equally spaced grooves into the nut threads.

You can buy thread chasing nuts but they cost a fortune.

Thhe HHHs are from my Lenova laptop ........at one time I corrected thhem ,but can no longer bothher .........apparently it needs a new keyboard membrane ,whhichh I have zero intention of doing....................Thhe fault was really bad starting one day (yes ,one day) after thhe warranty expired.,but now its tolerable.

OK ,back to the hub .........the proper factory tool is a simple hollow steel cup that fits over the thread and against a flat shoulder on the axle ........the cup is made of hard steel ,and you simply strike it with a 3 to 4 lb hammer ,and it actually shocks the axle out of the hub without damaging anything........it works best with the wheel and tyre left on the hub (more weight resistance)

Back in the day ,everyone had a story of the axle breaking through the keyway ,and losing one of the back wheels .....I saw one break just as the truck pulled out of a service station ,the wheel just fell off at about 3 mph.
