Anyone here had experience with working on Pancake Perkins. (slant mounted 6 354T's)
Wondering if they were ever installed into buses or trucks.

Engine Type: The Perkins H6.354 (Horizontal) is a 354 cu. in. (5.8 L) diesel engine.
Bus Application: These engines were popular in the 1960s–1980s, frequently found in Bedford buses, and were used in places like the UK, Australia, and Malta.
Design Purpose: The horizontal design (slanting) was designed to reduce the height of the engine, often for underfloor installations.
Performance: A Bedford bus fitted with a Perkins 6.354 engine and an Allison automatic transmission is noted for sitting around 80kph at 2300rpm.
Variants: While the H6.354 was the common horizontal variant, there was also a Turbocharged HT6.354 (TF).

Thanks Lang,
I'm weighing up these in a cruiser, have been totally rebuilt but was a little concerned about getting to the hull side for servicing.
Far as I can see, pump both injection and fuel, injectors, filters both oil and fuel all seem to be face up with the turbochargers at the rear and easy to get to.
So far they are the front runner after looking at twin TAMD 60 Volvo's and twin 504 Cummins.

I have not seen them in a vehicle but I have seen quite a few in boats. I think you are right with the accessory access being all on one side. In a boat or bus anything other than that would make servicing impossible and therefore the engine unacceptable for fitting.
I have had two Perkins boats and love them. Unfortunately I am no help to you as they were both upright conventional arrangement.

Been a 6354 Perkins they won't need much maintenance anyway, so I think they'll be a safe bet and if maintenance is carried out properly they'll probably outlast any of us

The ones in the pic are pretty early with hydraulic governed DPA pumps ..........they are not a big hour motor like a Cat or GM ,but things like pistons ,rings, and liners are cheap...........my main concern with early motors was the rocker covers leaking oil ,but maybe horizontal motors have better covers .

Thanks everyone for the replies.I do like the Perkins option in my search.
Another similar cruiser had the same installation but the whole mechanical side of the boat was a total mess and pretty much undocumented compared with this ones full history of everything that has been done by the current owners including proper wiring.
Looking down at them, Its still hard to get your head around the area of sump compared to a regularly installed upright diesel and as JohnK points out the upper gaskets holding back that oil.

Be sure to check running light at around 1200 revs ......the hydraulic DPAs develop violent hunting at part throttle and revs when worn ,and only run smoothly at idle and full throttle.........In fact ,Im surprised to see a marine motor with the hydraulic pump.,normally only on trucks
