Licence downgrade . was created by JOHN.K.
Ive turned 75  and to keep a HC licence  I need a lot of costly medical BS ......so I decided to down grade to a light rigid and avoid    medical costs ......So the question is what  SIV type  rego  truck   can   I get away with on a LR Qld  licence. ?   Not necessarily legal ,but  what can I gt away with   ?

Just had a look and SIV and Full Rego have nothing to do with licences. You must have the licence applicable to the vehicle weight/size/type regardless of whether it is on full, historic, farm or industrial registration.

The only thing I can think that might work in Qld (not other states) because of the stupid 50% GVM rule for historic it might pull you under the next one down. Eg a medium rigid truck might meet the weight limit for light rigid with its restriction. Same as heavy rigid to medium rigid.

I believe if you have held a drivers licence for 5 years or are over 25 a light rigid licence application will be automatically upgraded to medium rigid.

Just looked further and I can find no special medical conditions to retain your HC or HR licence. You are over 75 therefore you are like EVERYONE and need to have a medical certificate from your doctor stating you are fit to drive - usually done by the nurse getting you to read the chart and count backwards from 100 in 3's etc

In Queensland, there’s no age limit on driving if you can drive safely. However, if you’re 75 or older, you must always carry a current medical certificate when driving.

If you do not have an M (medical) condition recorded on your licence, this page explains what you need to do to keep driving when you’re 75 or older.

Make an appointment to see your doctor. Let them know that you would like your fitness to drive assessed as they may need to allow more time than a standard visit.
Complete part 1 of the Medical Certificate for Drivers (F3712) form before your appointment to give to your doctor.
Complete part 1 of the Private and Commercial Vehicle Driver’s Health Assessment (F3195) form, if possible, as this will help your doctor.
Make sure you have your driver licence with you.
Take your glasses or contact lenses with you, if you need to wear them when driving.

If you do have an M condition recorded on your licence when you’re 75 or older, find out if you can continue to drive safely with your medical condition.

I thought Id breeze through too.....The licence is divided into recreational and commercial ........to get the commercial licence (all MR ,HR ,HC, bus etc ) the GP fee is $240 .......and he wanted a specialist assessment ,which would be a lot more $....at which point I said forget it ,Ill go with recreational /private ,which is car ,bike ,light rigid......and the first GP wouldnt even consider a bike licence ,either ......Anyhoo ,its done now .

I was mainly wondering if somthing like a Blitz or a Studebaker would be OK.........Also seems  possible to tow a small semi trailer   with a   light   prime mover   like a IH 1800  at 4 tons

You could get one of your 6x6 Toyotas going.

It's all a bit of a bugger this constant medical checks
I'm not there yet

My good mate has type 2 diabetes that requires a medical check every 12 months for his MC licence
My bus licence for carrying fare paying passengers required a medical at renewal each time but that requirement fell by the way side during Covid lock downs and has just been renewed ever since without a medical

I guess keeping fit and healthy is kind of important

The joys of getting older, my electrical licence is getting more and more demands at each renewal as is just about everything these days

I can understand why people just let things go as even making a appointment online can involve a lot of colourful language at times

Looks like your problem is a personal one, not a routine general medical assessment. I suppose this is the reason for the assessments in the first place - to identify areas of concern that may affect your licence.

I know it is a pain but maybe if he is asking for specialist advice it might be to the benefit if your general health and life extension to find out. There could well be a genuine reason to restrict your driving options, annoying as it may seem.

We are all getting older and there is a limit to how many blood pressure tablets, ever thicker glasses, hearing aids, Viagra and hip replacements we can accumulate to keep us forever 25.

I made a lot of mistakes for sure .......the first one being that I didnt find a GP that was more reasonable ..... If this was a one off ,then a couple of hundred $ is OK ,but spending this money every 12 months ......no way ......The only medical issue I have is high BP , kept normal by a tablet a day ..........he also wanted a written eye test  cert from OPSM ,which I passed   without glasses .........This  GP   set to piss  me off ......unfortunate  because  the  surgery is  next  door .
