Thanks for the pics Sarge! Funny, you used to see millions of conventional 1418's around, but not many cabovers. I'm pretty sure they were a bit of a rust collector, and they were a mongrel to work on. Now there seems to be lots of them poking up out of the woodwork, and nowhere near as many conventionals! Wonder why. maybe the poor old LS's (conventionals) did so much work they just ended up in the wrecking yards. I guess they rusted too.
It is truly amazing how many people walk into my shed and say "wow, I did a lot of miles in one of those old girls!" And they usually say they upgraded from a petrol inter or something like that, and just couldn't believe how good these things were in their day, power steering, heaters, proper luxury!
Anyway here's another pic I found. Another one of Dad's when I was a young fella, it was running Melbourne to Brisbane etc. The photos are marked "January 1975" and they were taken in Lara Victoria. Loaded with Holdens, (HJ's etc I reckon) Imagine trying to run interstate and make a living with 5 cars now...

From the other side of the world, here's one still working for the Israeli FFS - must be at least 30 years old...

And another...

This was 1969 model 1418 originally owned by Farley & Lewers in Sydney. It was a primemover and probably pulled an aluminium tipper. I bought it in 1972 from Yorkstar Motors in Ashford Rd Milperra, the first thing I did was have it painted Carnation Red before I took it home. I didn't want anyone seeing me driving a lolly pink truck. We extended the chassis, fitted a 23ft tray and Ringfeder to pull an 18 ft dog trailer.

Here's another one. Add a flinstone R600, A Volvo F89 and a Scania 110 and you have a fairly good representation of what it used to look like in Israel in the 1970s (Bigger pic here: i.start.co.il/cfs-filesystemfile.ashx/__...17/6558.11858342.jpg )...

The odd man out is the RC1, I don't think there were more than one or two in the country. Trucks I believe belong to Kibbutz Massada, pic by Y. Shen. I rememebr that RC1 from when I was growing up - the driver would stop at my home town on his way to the Jordan Valey for a drink and I'd catch up with it going home back from school and (of course) wait until he drove off, there was nothing like it anywhere...

and we had the COEs also:

This one by srulik500.

Mr Bynder who is the gentleman on the right posted the pic (bigger version: i.start.co.il/cfs-filesystemfile.ashx/__...305E205D505DF05_.jpg ). At more than 70, he still drives his own Iveco for living.

Many more pics of how things were in Israel way back then here: i.start.co.il/groups/kenworth/forum/t/14736.aspx?PageIndex=1 (Hebrew mostly - Google's translator may provide help (or comic relief)).

Cheers,

T

I've been restoring a 1418 for the last couple of years now and for anyone that's interested I have bought all my new parts from John Putre Snr at JP Blacktown Diesel Repairs in Blacktown NSW. He's also a good source of information on them.
