Pete, which 5 speed gearbox / split diff was it that 4 and 5 high/low was back the front ? ie 3low - 3high, 4 low-5 low then 4 high then 5 high. Our old AB-180 was like this.

In the 5 speed / 2 speed Inters that I have driven, 4th High and 5th low are much the same. 4th High might be a shade higher but not worth another shift. It all depends on the two ratios in the diff.
I think there were two different 5 speed boxes in the AB 180 but not sure what the differences were. One may have been an overdrive box,

Thanks for the comment. I know where our old AB is I might go and have a look for an ID on it and see if I can work it out. I was definatly back to front in the top two gears. We put a big notice on the dash so any of our workers who drove it didnt forget it was different to the rest of our inters.
The diff in it was pretty fast and had a 160 cummins. 60 mph at about 2300revs. It was like this when we bought it but im sure inters wouldnt have made an AB this quick. Barry

Hi Barry T54 was direct drive and T53 was overdrive with 5 gear up to the dash and 4th to the seat. If you find the truck can you see what diff ratio it has. Thanks Stephen how the R190 going.

Hello Stephen, Had a chat to my old man last night and thinks the diff was 5.4-1 in high. He reckons the box is a spicer of some sort.
Im going to try and have a look at it on the weekend.
Im struggling with the 190 at the moment trying to get finished for the run to Vic in Nov. The way its looking I will be still cable tying air hoses at each truck stop on the way over. Ive had a test drive with no doors or panels and mechanically everything seems okay. Only had one oil leak which is good considering everything has been in bits. Little jimmy runs sweet. Barry
