Looks nice Swishy. Your right about computers. Sure they may be good when all is working but when something goes wrong, it is a nightmare to fix.

Just look a roadbossman's recent posts.....

Bring on the good old days..... :)

Regards Stew.

Me thinks the only reason KW got into bed with DAF twaz to get a leg up into the Euro market
n the only thing of any use from DAF so far have been the square fuel tank idea
LOL

I was actually lucky enough to go to the launch of the new Kenworth range in Alice Springs. Had a sit in all of them too! The Aerodyne has an almost flat floor! You can fold down the gear stick, stand up and just about walk into the bunk and over to the passenger side.

The engines run that clean that the insides of the exhausts are spotless :o

Cummins only for engine choice in numerous HP's and they have also got an optional 2 pedal (clutchless) autoshift manual gearbox.

Also heard a roumour that the aerodyne will get swing out steps like a Freightliner Argosy but they never actually mentioned or demonstrated this at the launch.

Trucks also have Active Stability Control and a crash avoidance auto braking thingy. There is a little camera in the middle of the front bumper (just below the number plate) that detects the distance of the vehicle in front. If it gets too close an alarm sounds and if it gets really close, really quick, it will do the braking for you.

All optional across the Aero range of Kenny's.

Not sure if they are available on the Traditional range.

Swishy,

Yes (although it was really PACCAR, not KW) and at the time DAF was going cheap (it was in receivership after having been draged down by making too many investments - including purchasing what remained of Leyland) but potentially was profitable (and it is now). DAF also produce their own engines which I believe you can get in some US KW models.

But the negative aspect of it is that we will never see COE KWs in LHD countries or where DAF is better known than KW...

As for the Aussi KWs (with the exception of the K200 and the "outback" models), they seem very similar to the US T660 which we get in Israel and Europe (probably better built though).

I still have to get used to the new K :o

Cheers,

T

Hopefully the K model is still as tough. It really only has a different grille and headlights. Both of which are really only add on parts.

As for PACCAR taking over DAF, well they really had to to survive. All of the other American brands were taken over by Europeans so this was a case of the other way around. It also gave PACCAR their own engine which was also already Euro compliant. Interesting though, as the US through Henry Ford pioneered the assembly line production of cars has pretty much had it's truck industry entirely taken over by foreigners who build trucks the same way as they do cars, something which Americans have not done until recently with their truck industry.

I could be cheeky and say the new K200 is starting to look like a Volvo but with out the power!!!! ;D

I wonder if you could spec a Scania V8 in a Kenworth. Nothing like a big V8
