went out with a mate today and purchased a new toy ,i am letting my mate buy this one ,i was told about this old girl ages ago ,isint it funny how it would take some body from as far away as Coloac (vic)to tell me about something that is only 100km from home here.so i aranged with the farmer over the phone to come take a look ages ago ,as he said it was out side hooked up to a tipper. so upon ariving and we went to check the farmer realized that it was not the transtar hooked to the tipper but an old leyland crusader, mmm he said ow it must be out the other farm. and that is 80km away , i said well not today as i must get back to get ready for work tonight :'(i could not get to check it out for some time , then while attending the national machinery rally at murray bridge we were sitting on the top balchony of the old pub chatting with other folks about things, and the conversation led to these folks that were from Queensland were going to check out this old transtar on the way back home ,i asked where it was and the answer was central NSW, i said lake cargelico and they nodded and smiled, so i thought thats the end of that ..over a long period it had been the subject of some conversations and such as to maybee should follow up on its existance(pressure from my mate), so last night i did just that and rang the farmer, and to his amazment he said funly enough we are actualy trying to get the steering box out to get it redy for rego, so obviously you still have it and i presume it is now not for sale.he said that it was indeed still on the market ,but we are needing it for harvest.
so we went out early this morning checked it over , not perfect but where will we find a perfect one, all said and done left them with 50% of the purchase price they are going to run her around for the couple of weeks of harvest, then we will pick her up and bring her back to my place where i will hold it for a ransome of sorts.
for the pureists
it is a 8V71N
15 speed RR
40 000lbs rockwells

will be looking for some parts a fuel tank , top and bottom grilles , air cleaner stack and top and possibly a steering box :'( :'( :'(

Great Find and story Melon.
How many more Transtars are around your way, you don,t know of. ;D
I picked mine up from up Burcher way from a farmer, and before that belonged to a Machinery mob in West Wyalong.
Always happy to welcome another 4070 Transtar into the Resto world. ;)
Keep us updated.

Swishy,
Haven,t seen any DCOs anywhere around the traps, not even sitting idle in paddocks.Always on the lookout though. :(
Has any one seen any Slimline, single drive 4070s anywhere in this Great country? :(
