Some help please for a mate who is taking his N10 Bogie drive Volve to Brisbane up the Newell for the first time tomorrow. He wont be heavy (13 t container) but is concerned about the downhill. which way is easier, Cunninghams Gap or Toowoombah. too long ago for me to remember. :-[

cunninghams gap (just north of warick?) it a long way down goes for a few kms ..if hes worried id go the other route

Another way i been on and seen quite few semi's on the same road is off the New England Hwy btw Warwick and Toowoomba you take the road to Gatton nice steady drop on to the Warrego Hwy then into Brisbane. Best of luck Dave.

thanks for that, he lost brakes towing a 5th wheeler down out of Toowoomba a few years ago but has never done the gap hence his concern it might be as bad, Ii dont recall the gap being a big problem but that was a long time ago.

It's a nice long drop and if you get into the right gear he should only have to touch the brakes lightly. Dave

Those older Volvos only had a pretty useless exhaust brake but if the service brakes are in good nick and you get right down in low range should be OK. Newer Volvo have an excellent engine brake, as good as a Jake but much quieter.
