G'day all, I'm new here and thought I would jump in an join after lurking for a few weeks. I've just scored a 1940 Ford and figured the best way to learn more was to join you fine folk and shoot the s@#t so to speak!

I'll get pics of it once it arrives and put em up. The thing is in Queensland and I'm in Melbourne!

I guess that prompts my first question...does anyone know of a good transport company that will not send me flamin broke transporting the beast down here? She runs and has brakes, so no probs loading.

cheers and looking forward to the forum!!!!

Hi Steve,
Welcome to the forum. I'm pretty sure there is a least one other Ford nut on here. Not me though. ;)

I took this photo at our 2006 display day. I'm not too sure about Ford models, but I think this might be 30's vintage rather than 40's.

Gidday Steve, welcome to the forum.

This picture was taken the day it was leaving for Alice 2005 up through the dirt from Kalgoorlie - Ayers Rock - Alice.
The reason it has droopy drawers is there is a pallet of carlton mid strength in the back ..no joke. This ones rides the best on the corrogations so it was desiginated beer wagon. :D

Early to lateish 40s, Dennis.

Welcome Steve! Looking forward to seeing you and the Ford in the flesh. I know someone in northern NSW who might be able to help if you get stuck and the truck isn't far beyond the border.

Steve,

You could try one or two of our local transport companies - Rod Pilon Transport or Thompson Bros. Transport - Phone the Thompson Bros depot in Melbourne through TBT depot/Head Office or the Rod Pilon depot/Head Office, both of which can be found in Dubbo:

RPT: (02) 68820400
TBT: Melbourne Depot c/o CDM Logistics
16 Industrial Drive Sunshine VIC 3020
Contact: Mark Thompson, Dubbo Depot Manager
Phone: 02 68822544 Fax: 02 68841193 Mobile: 0418 824 544

They might, more than likely, flat top it within a mixed load - if you don't want it damaged (more than it is), let them know! They will also tarp it if necessary to keep her dry!

Bit hard to get cheap transport with the price of fuel as it is!

But for any body not in a gr8 rush
here is wot I suggest

print out an A4 sheet with full desription of load

EG: 1940 Ford (Driverable under own power
Length 5.50m
Width 2.40m
Height 2.20m
Mass 2.50 t
Transport required
From: Woop Woop Queensland
To: Melbourne Victoria
Please supple backload price to
Steve 0400 123 456

but U need to stipulate how its to be loaded/unloaded
Loading ramp, need trailer with rear ramps, crane on/off, forklift on/off
etc
contact the closest truck stop to the load fax the A4 sheet n ask them to nail it up on the wall in the drivers lounge

But as they say in sales dept etc byer B ware
so all i can say is I aint recomending any body
just be cautious unless U know the company

Thanks for the warm welcome and useful info!

I'll make a few calls today and see what I can turn up- certainly not expecting it to be cheap but it aint gonna get any cheaper.

In the meantime, here's a pic of the Ford taken a year or so ago apparently. Enjoy!

Steve

She looks a good, solid truck, Steve. You've done well.

Almost looks as though she was done up as a military vehicle for a movie.
