Ya gotta remember Swishy that the biggest things these guys here were driving 5 years ago was either a donkey, a camel or a wheel barrow. Their pre -start check consists of.....open door, sit on seat, hold steering wheel, push gogo button and pedal to the metal. While they are steering, constant use of a cell-phone, a smoke, a mouthful of qat and a bottle of water in the other hand is compulsory. They drive by feel.

I got a taxi from the airport in Sana'a one day to go to the staff house about 15 km away. It was a high class taxi, dent in every panel, tires were so bald you could see the air in them, the driver was another Nigel Mansell and the harder he pushed the horn button, the more the cars in front of him got out of the way..

Never again....I would rather wipe my butt with a tiger snake than do that again. :D :D :D

HOW TO STRETCH A WESTERN STAR

All up weight....185 ton, 45 ton over the turn-table.

Find a hill you cant get over and just hook a dozer up to the front tow hitch of the truck.

There are two pull points back on the rig chassis but the guys were just too dumb or lazy or both to get a second dozer and the proper tow lines.

On a flat area the Western Star could pull the carrier un-assisted at 30 kph. Western Star was 3406 Cat power, running through a 6 speed Clark auto and a 4 speed joey. The operator was number 1 Camel-driver in his village.

SWISHY.....The one that fell over on it's side is the only "Screemer Powered" drilling rig I saw in Yemen. Maybe it was the massive engine torque re-action that tipped it on it's side, and not the "Camel Jockey" behind the wheel.

99% of the rigs in Yemen and Saudi run those big nice yellow coloured engines, from 3304's to 3516. They are all good engines until something goes wrong with them.

We have about 3 pages of photos of Manure Situations photos in the 2011 yearbook which is due from the printer this week (just in time for Sandown). HCVC Members should get them with their next Monitor.

[SalesCap]I could put them here but why not buy a copy of the No 9 Yearbook to support the club that provides the forum[/SalesCap] ;D

Having lived through a pandemic I now understand all the painting of fat people on couches!
