g'day jimbo and all, and a very good point .

the factory always have to deliver trucks to ''sales'' within the firm, so a factory delivery is just plain wrong because at that point the vehicle has to be warrantied and a ''factory'' has no way of providing that warranty.

only a dealership can expedite a particular claim for whatever problem for the owner, which if seen too often will be referred back to the manufacturer

so i guess that ''first factory delivered chassis'' was..after all... a public relations device .

cheers

There is a fairly solid rumour over here that one of those shown in the pic will be in the Richardson collection shortly.

G'day Swishy, and thanks for the Bill Richardson link. What a brilliant collection! How many life-times of collecting and restoring has this bloke had?

After looking at two different sources for delivery dates the same answer comes out for Australian delivery:

#1 400006
#2 400007
#3 400008

But I'd bet there's other dates on other paperwork buried somewhere that might tell a different story.

At the end of the day it's more about the fun of the chase for historical info.

Is 400008 the oldest known chassis # in Australia??
& are there any other very low chassis # known in Aust.
