Good idea Chocs.

1979 International ACCO (I'd imagine most ACCOs are the same)

location:
Passenger side chassis rail forward of the front spring hanger, on the front spring.

On the Forward Control (F-series) Macks, the chassis number is also hidden on the chassis, underneath where the big cab support member, that runs over the top of the motor, is bolted.
You have to unbolt the cab support member to see it. This was an anti-theft measure by Mack.

peterbilt cabovers up to 1964 (at least the rh australian ones)...on the upper chassis flange just behind the cab mount leg on both rails which was meant to be covered by the pogo stick crossmember (anti theft measure ?)

cabovers from 1964 had the number, once again on both rails, stamped low and just forward of the front spring shackle bracket,

all conventional petes i have seen have had the number stamped high on the side of the rail, once again both sides, between the rear cab support bolts (six bolts each side) and also on the hood latch extrusion rails, as you lift the hood, looking down on the inside

It was interesting walking around Sandown and looking at KW "chassis numbers" on rego labels (yes, I'm tragic).

Surprisingly there were a number with the same "chassis number"! Actually it was the part number of the chassis rail.

So it helps to know the format of the number you are looking for to avoid such mistakes.
