Help a VOLVO was created by Sarge
As Pete has indicated his N10 Volvo has suffered some fire damage after the rain caused the electrics to short out. All is not lost, but I understand the cab is pretty much gutted. It is repairable but there are some questions that need EXPERT answers. (He needs it back on the road for work ASAP)

He has another N10 to wreck, but it is several years older and has many differences.

The Good truck was 24 volt and the wreck is 12 volt with 24 volt start.

so.....
Are the guages 12/24 volt sensitive.
Are the sender switches 12/24 volt sensitive
are relay switches 12/24 sensitive.

Are there problems running with 12/24 transfer units as in the wreck??

Does anyone have any idea why Volvo run so many relay switches... was it just a way of ensuring good power supply.

Anyone got the guts out of an N10 cab sitting in the top of a dump bin they dont need???

Pete might well ask his own questions, but as Scout pointed out, I tend to do the torkin' 8-)

Sarge :-X

Thanx Sarge

And Swishy u have just shocked me you have actually sujested I buy another Volvo I would have never thought u would give that kind of advice
And no its the chance for me to finally get away from its colour
but maybe not before the big fat man comes
Hope he brings me a new test light cause I think Im going to need it

But yes I am going to have to nut out the differencs between 12 & 24 Volt
From what I saw Yesterday it needs
Complete Rewire, Air lines, New Interior, Windsrceen, and the roof repaired

But we shall see when its back home and in the workshop
Hope the neighbors r heavey sleepers cause there will be some late nights working on her

Lucas the Prince of Darkness

The Lucas Electric motto: "Get home before dark."

Lucas denies having invented darkness. But they still claim "sudden, unexpected darkness."

Lucas--inventor of the first intermittent wiper.

Lucas--inventor of the self-dimming headlamp.

The three-position Lucas switch--DIM, FLICKER and OFF. The other three switch settings--SMOKE, SMOLDER and IGNITE.

The original anti-theft devices--Lucas Electric products.

"I've had a Lucas pacemaker for years and have never experienced any prob...

If Lucas made guns, wars would not start either.

Did you hear about the Lucas powered torpedo? It sank.

It's not true that Lucas, in 1947, tried to get Parliament to repeal Ohm's Law. They withdrew their efforts when they met too much resistance.

Did you hear the one about the guy that peeked into a Land Rover and asked the owner "How can you tell one switch from another at night, since they all look the same?" "He replied, it doesn't matter which one you use, nothing happens!"

Back in the '70s Lucas decided to diversify its product line and began manufacturing vacuum cleaners. It was the only product they offered which didn't suck.

Quality Assurance phoned and advised the Engineering guy that they had trouble with his design shorting out. So he made the wires longer.

Why do the English drink warm beer? Lucas makes the refrigerators.

Alexander Graham Bell invented the Telephone.
Thomas Edison invented the Light Bulb.
Joseph Lucas invented the Short Circuit.

Recommended procedure before taking on a repair of Lucas equipment: check the position of the stars, kill a chicken and walk three times sunwise around your car chanting: "Oh mighty Prince of Darkness protect your unworthy servant."

Lucas systems actually uses AC current; it just has a random frequency.

Hey Swishy, like the article about Lucas electrics, managed a good chuckle with most of them.

Now that picture showing the excepted replacement stuff for the fuses, reminds me of a cop car that I had as an escort for a wide load. He just stopped in the middle of the road and couldn't get anything to go. Turned out the vehicle had for some reason, blow a heap of fuses. At the time I used to smoke Camel ciggies, so out with the silver paper and wound up each fuse with a big bit of it, started the car and away we went again.
Told him when he got back to Bris, to tell the cop car garage fellas what I had done, which he duly did. This was followed a week later with an official letter from the said garage fellas, to Brumbles office workers, stating that this procedure was NEVER to used again by any driver AT ALL.
Fellas in the office got a good laugh out of that one.
