...cunning .. i think that mustard and white conventional you mention is the one that is now owned by myself...
...was purchased direct from Alltrans/TNT from Dave McNee and an ol' mate and was painted to resemble, somewhat, the Cannington colours....she later went through a few owners including Geoff McDonald, and had a custom paint job with ''Duel'' on the bonnet sides....
...if it is the same conventional we are referring to Bruce ... as i can't really recall any others of note that got around Sydney and were running the highway in these colours around your early era....cheers mate

The one I'm referring to had a KW bonnet with Peterbilt badges and was also a rigid tipper, That's why I was thinking it was the blue one Phil. As a truck obsessed youngster..........I was confused

The Peterbilt with a W-model hood Cunning is referring to is one of the Pioneer 351s and ended up with Barbro Smash repairs, they repowered it with a 8v71. Cheers James.

....thanks Jimmy and 'scuse me cunning .. never gave a thought to the KW bonnets or the Barbaro modified Peterbilt....which was originally ordered for Ray Fitzpatrick Quarries (ch/no 19427) and was one of two for that firm.....both came with NHE225 Cummins and compound 4X4 Spicers....
...there are/were at least six Kenworth bonnets converted onto our Aussie conventional Petes over the years AFAIK....cheers

...make that at least seven Aussie Petes that operated with the W model KW bonnet....
ch/no's 16923, 18353, 19427, 19895, 20036, 20037, and 22061 ...
...it is no discredit to this sort of thing occurring as it may have been a situation of a truck being able to hit the road ........or otherwise parked up through a lack of available (usually hard to get) butterfly front sheetmetal
...also ch/no 18353 was re-instated with the original front sheetmetal whilst being restored quite a few years ago

The one cunning is refering to used to run out of the kurnell sand pits about 17 years ago . The one that belonged to dave mcnee was brought from kenworths when they were at lansvale . Dave was a driver at russo's and i was the bowzer service boy there as well , we both walked up to kenworths and walked down a line of petes that had had been traded by tnt . There would have been easy 10-20 of them and dave and i looked at them and he picked the best one he thought of the lot . He rebuilt it in bay number one of the workshop at express freight , and i helped him out when he needed it . I havnt seen him in years if anyone see's him tell him the dog say's g,day .

...thanks for that interesting info scummy BTW Dave McNee's Peterbilt was ch/no 22064 and was used in with Allied freight when it was taken over by Alltrans/TNT....Jimbo 51 has a half decent piccy of this truck at that time....
...also just for posterity's sake (or otherwise... in case i ever forget!) there were a few Aussie conventional Petes that ended up with another makers cab...
...ch/no 16437 (first conventional into service) now sports an Autocar cab...
...ch/no's 19895, 17786, 17787 and 20301 now have a Kenworth W model cab fitted to them....
...and lastly ch/no 17527 (ex French Petroleum 6X6) has a home built semi wooden structure that really bears no resemblance to a Peterbilt cab : : : .....cheers
