Just by looking at it, with the way the sticks have been bent, my guess is it's a 5 x 4 set-up.
Now looking at the black sticker on the heater, it says it's a Maxidyne, so it could very well be just a 5 speed main box, with a Hi-Low and reverse on the second stick. But the couple of Maxidynes I've had me bum in, ALL had the second Hi-Low-Reverse stick down on the right hand side of the steerin' wheel attendants chair, not out in the middle of the floor.
Best way to find out, is get your bum in it and start swapping cogs, after a couple of grinds, you'll soon know which one it is.

LOL
Me dont thinks they have used the QuadBox 5x4 as the Maxidyne probly had to much torque for capacity of box
it duz look like a 6 speed mack
1 thru 5 on the stik closest to the drover
n other lever Direct OD n Reverse
gives U the added advantage of progressively shifting 5 speeds thru reverse
they B the next best thing to an auto box
cos U do half the gear changes than a screemer n RR
we always used the dynatard to kill the revs B tween gears as there is a wide step B tween m
U no
pull lever into neutral wait for revs to die off (roll cigarette) then into cog
but with dynatard it kills revs n U can pull lever straight thru
LOL
Here B a bit of Useless info on shiftn a 5x4

I do believe Swishy is right. In my one and only drive (in the passenger seat) of a Holdsworth & Quigley Mack for the 100 metres between their yard and the Comalco loading bay next door, that was, word for word, the driver's explanation of the two sticks sitting between us.

Hey swishy, how do you work this lot out -- "Me dont thinks they have used the QuadBox 5x4 as the Maxidyne probly had to much torque for capacity of box".
How did they manage to fit 5 x 4's into the R700 V 8's then, lots more torque in the bent 8, than the maxidyne 6 pack. As for the joey not being able to stand the strain, then you better tell Mr Spicer that they aint strong enough then.
The 5 x 4 sticks were bent, so you could grab the right combinations easier, than if they were straight sticks.
Now why would you bother to bend the two sticks, if you only got 5 on the main and just a couple of shuffle positions on the Hi-Low-Reverse stick. Dont make sense bending them both.

Just my 2.2c (GST inc) worth.
With my quad and all the others I've seen, the sticks are in-line with each other across the box, not staggered as in this photo. :

What you got is a PROPER quad box, that is two separate boxes actually bolted together, then when you crawl under, it looks like it's one box. These could be 4 x 4 or 5 x 4, depends on what was ordered or what someone fitted latter.
Now when you see two BENT sticks like that in the photo, that then indicates that there are two SEPERATE gearboxes fitted and they have a jack shaft between them. So the 5 speed main box would be attached to the bell housing, then about two or three feet further down the chassis, there is the 4 speed joey box fitted between the rails. Now this combination was generally fitted to a truck that was going to be doing some serious heavy work, so most times they fitted SPICER boxes that could easily handle what was about to happen to them. Now Mack gearboxes are only Spicers with a dog and Mack moulded into them, but, they are still not as heavy duty as some of the special heavy duty stuff that Spicer sell, as Spicer
The quad box you got fitted to the B 61, does not need to have the sticks bent, as they miss each other and have been made that way, as that is the optimum angle to handle both sticks at once. Some owners give them a slight bend to make some changes easier, but NOT to the extent of what the sticks have been bent in that photo.
While at Brambles, I watched a brand new Mack Coolpower, that had just been given to one of the drivers, aka Kenny George, he got out the gas axe and proceeded to get each stick red hot and he bent them to suit himself, whilst the boss was watching and in full agreement to do it.
