Which Collins, you talking about Chocs???
Collins from Adelaide are still about in a fairly sizeable way........

Mayne Nickless came to N.Z. about 1965, they went into business with some Kiwi operators to form the Allied Freightways Group. The original businesses were Dale's Transport in Auckland, formerly George Dale and Son, which became Dale's Freightways, Pettigrew's Transport from Napier and Taupo which became Pettigrew's Freightways. O'Brien's Transport of Wellington became O'Brien's Freightways and A.R. Guthrey and Co. from Christchurch became Guthrey's Freightways. About three or four years later they took over the old established N.Z. Express Company which gave them five more South Island depots. The Freightways group adopted the red and orange Dale's colour scheme and they would have been one of the biggest transport operators in N.Z. through the 1970s and 1980s. I don't know too much about their more recent history, but I would be interested to learn more. Brambles I think came over here in the late 1960s, they acquired J.B. O'Loghlen and Co. in Auckland, Barton Ginger and Co. in Wellington, Port Freighters in Christchurch and Spencer, Crust, Gain Transport in Dunedin. All these firms adopted the Bramble's orange livery. In the early 1970s they bought into Bob Burnett's business Burnett's Motors in Ashburton, they also bought another rural carrier, Service Transport and Agency Co. of Amberley. These purchases got them into rural cartage and Burnett's business also got them into earthmoving and contracting. Service Transport wasn't owned for long before being sold on to Transport Nelson. I think Bramble's N.Z. interests were eventually acquired by the Owens Group which itself became part of Mainfreight in recent years.
